Using Location Services to record a Point Feature
July 17, 2011 Leave a comment
Here is one way to collect GIS data for Point Features by using the Location Services on your iPod Touch or your Wi-Fi-only iPAD.
Join a Wi-Fi Network.
Turn on the Location Services under Settings on the iOS device.
Run iCMTGIS for iPAD or iGPSGIS for iPhone, and tap on the GPS icon then tap on “GPS On”.
When you can get your current position via Wi-Fi then you will be able to use the Collect function under GPS to record a point along with pertinent descriptions.
Please keep in mind that the position obtained this way is not as accurate as that obtained from a built-in GPS chip.
