How to disable Auto-Lock?

If your iPhone or iPad is set to auto-lock in a few minutes, and your data collection or stakeout job lasts longer than that, the unit would time-out after being left alone for a few minutes. Then you would have to press the Home button and unlock the unit to continue working.

To prevent such an interruption, you could change the Auto-Lock to a longer period of time or select “Never” when you are actively doing GPS work. Alternatively, tap the screen from time to time so it won’t auto-lock. The Auto-Lock option is under Settings – General.
