Do you have an app with enough accuracy to walk a property line, stake it and build a fence?

We have such apps for use on iPad and iPhone devices. The accuracy depends on the GPS receiver used.

The iCMTGIS PRO with EOS Arrow Gold or iSXBlue II+ GNSS is for performing a survey-grade job with high accuracy. This system has a high price tag. Consumer-grade GPS such as the Dual XGPS-150A or a Bad Elf GPS only claim 2 – 5 meter accuracy and are much more affordable.

New Release: Forester GPS GSI II for iPad

IN Tree

IN Tree

We are pleased to announce the release of Forester GPS GIS II for use on the iPad. This app provides GPS data collection and mapping functionality in addition to the various utilities provided in the original Forester GPS GIS app.

“Forester GPS GIS II” provides tools for estimating basal area per acre for a timber stand as well as GPS data collection and mapping functions for use on the iPad. It will let you use a GPS receiver to map a timber stand or any other land parcel then create grid points over the area. You can also create features by importing feature data in Shapefiles or DXF format, by manual digitization or by entering deed calls. The acreage and perimeter of an area feature will be promptly computed. You can easily divide or combine the land plots. You will be able to record attribute information for each geographic feature. You also will be able to export the feature data as Shapefiles in LLA, UTM or State Plane coordinates.

If your device has GPS capability, the Point Stakeout function could help you locate the cruise points, and the Line Stakeout function could help you stay on a transect line. The accuracy of the location data depends on the GPS receiver used.

Deed Calls & Stakeout updated to Version 1.0.1

Apple has approved our updated Deed Calls & Stakeout app. Version 1.0.1 includes the following modifications:

1. Changed the default label positions in the deed plot such that the angle label will show above a line segment, and the distance label will show below the line segment.

2. In Menu\Setup\Feature Labels, added the options to display the angle label above or below the line segment in the deed plot.

3. Changed the order of the Horizontal Distance and Horizontal Angle fields in the Deed Calls input screen.

4. Fixed bug in displaying angles in DMS when the Decimal Digits is set to 0 for angles.

5. Disabled map tilt in Show Standard Map mode.

If you have the Deed Calls & Stakeout app on your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch, please download the update from the App Store.

Partition & Stakeout app released

Direction Cut

Direction Cut

“Partition & Stakeout” is an app for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch that provides the functionality of the Partition – Distance – Area app plus the functionality of the Stakeout iCMT app. You can use it to precisely digitize a timber tract, a land parcel, a campus or any other real property and divide it into sub-areas. If your device has GPS capability, you may record the GPS location as a Point, or pick the GPS location as a node for the Line or Area you are creating. You may also let the Stakeout functions in this app help you approach a point or move along a line or area boundary in the field.

You can work with one or more jobs. The job data can be exported to DXF, and the coordinates and drawing can be output to PDF.

Detailed Function List:

* Precisely digitize Points, Lines and Areas over the built-in Map.
* Sub-divide an Area by Direction Cut, Hinge Cut or a digitized Split-Line.
* Use Point Stakeout and GPS to locate a point or a node on a line.
* Use Line Stakeout and GPS to locate a line.
* View position, length and area values for the Features.
* Label the Lines with segment lengths and directions as well as corner angles.
* Label the Areas with size in acres and square feet or hectares and square meters.
* Measure distances and areas without saving the shapes.
* Move existing nodes to fine-tune the map drawing.
* Create a Point from entered coordinates.
* Create a Point or record a node by picking the GPS location.
* Save the job data file for later use.
* Export Feature data to DXF.
* Output the drawing and the coordinates to PDF.
* Email the job data files and the PDF files to your colleagues.

Partition & Stakeout is now available at the Apple App Store.

Stakeout iCMT will help you stay in line

“I wondered if the tone can alert me when I am in line with that straight line.”

The Line Stakeout function provided by Stakeout iCMT, Farming GPS GIS and Forester GPS GIS will continually display the distance between you and your projected position on a Line Feature or the boundary of an Area Feature as you move parallel to or along the line.

When you tap the Settings button in a stakeout screen, you will see the options to display a message and/or issue a beep when you are within the distance specified in the Tolerance field. Therefore, if you set this tolerance value to be 1 ft, then as long as you are within 1 ft of the line you will hear beeps or see a “Target!” message flash on the screen. When you are out of bounds, the beeps will stop and you won’t see the “Target!” message.

Keep in mind, though, that the GPS built in the iPad is not that accurate. If you need accurate results, you should look into getting an accurate external GPS device that works with your iPhone, iPAD or iPod touch.

Which app will help me layout drain tiles based on Shapefiles?

If you just wish to import Shapefiles and locate the points, lines or areas displayed on your iPhone or iPad with GPS, Stakeout iCMT will help you accomplish the task.

Which app will let me digitize my property then go out and find it?

Stakeout iCMT will display the Apple Map on your iPad (with WiFi and GPS) or your iPhone and let you digitize the boundary of your property and any landmarks on the built-in Apple Map. If you know the Latidude and Longitude of a point, you could also add the point to the map by entering these coordinates. The points, lines and areas you digitize will be stored as Features in the job file.

You can use the Point Stakeout function in this app to help you go to the Point Feautres or to any node on a Line Feature or Area Feature. The app will continually show the current distance between you and the target and display how far in which direction you should go to reach the target to stake it.

The Line Stakeout function in this app will help you move along a Line Feature or an Area Feature. You may store a position at any time as you walk along. Later, you may digitize the line or area boundary you have traversed by snapping to each of these points. The digitized Features can be output to a PDF file.

The Point Stakeout and Line Stakeout functions are also incorporated in the Farming GPS GIS app for the iPad and the Forester GPS GIS app for the iPad. If you have PC-GIS X, then you could send the job file from Farming GPS GIS or Foreser GPS GIS to this desktop software and also bring in a Google Map image as background then print the Feature data along with the background map. Or, you could use PC-GIS X to export the Feature data in .kml format and open the .kml file in Google Earth.
