File transfer via ftp in iCMTGIS PRO

” ‘Im trying to get the data off the iPad by using the FTP function in the software. I can login to the ftp site and am able to see the directory, but when I try to transfer the file, I receive a stream error in iCMTGIS Pro.”

We asked this user to use iTunes to do the file transfer as we were not sure what caused the stream error. We know that some other users are able to ftp files back and forth between their PC and their iCMTGIS II, iCMTGIS III and iCMTGIS PRO apps.

Today Keith emailed us that he had figured this out, and that the following information might be helpful to other users:
“This particular web site was configured as a ‘blind ftp’ server, which means that once you upload something, you can no longer see it, nor download it. For anonymous FTP sites, it prevents the site from being abused by folks. The file in question did actually upload the first time, it just didn’t show in the directory and when I tried to upload it again, the file as already there and that’s what caused the stream error.”

Thank you, Keith!

Does your app support RS-232 adapter for using iPhone 5 with external GPS?

“I’ve purchased iCMTGIS II, and appreciate its utility since Pocket PC is losing support. Can you recommend an RS-232 adapter to a iPhone 5 which will be recognized by the app?”

Our apps can work with any external GPS that is compatible with the iPhone and iPad, whether it uses Bluetooth or cable connection. There is the Aman cable that you could check out, although it’s rather spendy.

By the way, Microsoft states on their website that they will support Enhanced Mobile Handheld (EMHH) until the year 2020.

Is there an alternative method to transfer the data other than using itunes? We would like to transfer the data from iOS device to our storage drive.

The iGPS GIS II app for iPhone and the iCMTGIS II, Deed Calls Pro and Utility Data Collection apps for iPad provide ftp support. If you don’t have a ftp server, we can provide one to you.

Please see our blog post at this link with regards to file transfer using ftp.

iCMGIS II, iGPSGIS II and Deed Calls Pro also provide iCloud support. However, some people find it confusing to use the iCloud storage.

FTP file transfer using iCMT GIS II, iGSGIS II or Deed Calls Pro

Besides using iTunes to transfer files between your iOS device and your PC, some of the CMTINC.COM iOS apps will also let you send out files via email. Some of the apps, such as iCMT GIS II, iGSGIS II and Deed Calls Pro will also let you transfer files over the Internet using File Transfer Protocol (FTP).

FTP file transfer requires a FTP server and a ftp client. An iOS app that provides the FTP function will use an FTP client to let you send or get files to or from the PC running the FTP server.

To access the FTP function, select Main Menu of the iOS app, select Job, then select FTP.

Enter the IP address of the ftp site you want to connect to.

If a user name and password for accessing the ftp site is required then enter them into the corresponding boxes. For an FTP site that provides anonymous FTP access, simply mark the Anonymous checkbox, and the User Name will be automatically filled in with “anonymous”.

You may select the FTP Path and have it point to the desired folder on the PC. The files on the iPad and the files on the ftp site will be listed separately.

Select the files you wish to send from one side to the other then tap the corresponding large arrow button to complete the transfer.

If you have PC-GIS X, you could use the FTP Server function on its Utilities menu to transfer files to or from iCMT GIS II, iGSGIS II or Deed Calls Pro.
