How to view the data inside a .pmp Job file created by iCMTGIS PRO?

“Hi, is it possible to view the data within a *.pmp file? We have a version of CAD that doesn’t open *.pmp files. Basically, I need the vertical and horizontal data for each point, and if this was available in a *.csv file that would make my life much easier, because I’d be able to manipulate the vertical data using Excel.”

Does your CAD program open .dxf files? You can export the coordinate data to Shapefiles, Excel File and in DXF format. For DXF export, select Job > Export > Export DXF. As you want vertical data as well, select “3D”. Select the Topics you want exported, then tap the green check mark.

In addition, for Point type Topics, you can export the coordinates to a txt file. So, first tap the Topic View icon at the top, then select the Topic of interest. Then, from the Main Menu select Topic > Export Text File. Try to export the data by just using the default settings. Later, you can adjust the settings as desired.

User’s reply: “… i missed all those file options, duh.”

Will iCMTGIS PRO let me rotate a DXF in the field?

“I have a set of DXF templates that I use for staking out plots. The exact location and orientation of these plots aren’t known until in the field. Does iCMTGIS PRO give the ability to shift a DXF by selecting a point on the DXF and the current GNSS location?Does iCMTGIS PRO give the ability to rotate a DXF by selecting a rotation point on the DXF and enter a rotation angle?”

iCMTGIS PRO provides the functionality for defining a local NEZ plane.

As DXF files don’t contain coordinate system information, besides the location and orientation, you will also need the scale information. iCMTGIS PRO can compute the scale and rotation based on two matching points on the drawing and the ground. The NEZ plane thus defined can then correctly display the DXF data.

Grouping Points with Polygons

“If I import pmp file data (points) iCMTGIS PRO app into PCGISX, can I add, edit or group like features into an area or polygon shape then export the points. For example I collect several soil points in the field. I would like to export a shapefile or dxf with the similar feature points grouped inside a polygon from PCGISX.”

Fundamentally, you don’t mix different types (Points, Lines and Areas) of Features in Shapefiles. One set of Shapefiles is created when you export the data for a specific Topic Layer.

A DXF file can contain different types of Features. In the Export screen, you can select the Layers you wish to export.

With respect to grouping the Points, when you do the GPS data collection, you could collect the points onto different Point Layers. For example, you could set up the Feature List with the different point group names, and select the appropriate layer while recording the point observations.

Otherwise, for all the points that have been collected on the same Layer, you could create a number of Point layers in PC-GIS X with the appropriate names, highlight the points to go to a group and then use the Edit/Cut function and the Edit/Paste to Topic function to manually put the points into the appropriate group (Layer), and rename the Feature IDs, if you wish. When exporting to Shapefiles, each group will be exported to a separate set of Shapefiles.

As for the polygons, you would create them separately on an Area Topic Layer and then export them.

When you import the Shapefiles or DXF into some other software, all the points and polygons will show up on the map or drawing, but there will not be specific links between them.
